Big News, Dark Money, Dancing Puppets

WFM is not alone when it comes to recognizing
the pitfalls of the passage of I-190 and CI-118.

No, Dorothy, we are not in Kansas anymore.

But Montana has its own “Wizard” hiding behind a dark curtain. WFM has taken action to pull back the curtain that cloaks the North Fund “Wizard” by filing a Campaign and Practices Complaint with the Montana Commissioner of Political Practices. With over $4.7 million funneled directly to NAM, it is time they disclose donors and money sources instead of keeping us in the dark.

In the meantime, Montana’s currently well-managed and heavily-regulated medical marijuana program, are encouraging their members to vote against the passage of I-190 & CI-118 and keep recreational marijuana out of our State. These are small business owners abiding by current regulations while providing a safe product for Montana residents who hold a legal prescription.

North Fund, Montana’s “Wizard” lists itself as an “incidental committee” but they are funneling millions of dollars into campaigns supporting or opposing ballot issues in a number of states. Such actions change their committee classification into one that requires disclosing donors and sources of money. Why are they trying to hide it?

North Fund’s PUPPETS – continue to push the agenda of this out-of-state dark money group with no regard for what’s best for the citizens of Montana. Motivated by greed, their actions mimic the Scarecrow, Tin Man and Lion – devoid of brains, heart and courage – the courage to stand up for what is best for our State.

What happens if

I-190 and CI-118 pass?

The small business medical marijuana distributors will be pushed out as the big money groups commercialize the industry with no regard for our health and safety. Colorado and Washington are still in “wait and see” mode as to the pitfalls of recreational legalization. The regulations are not as stringent in the recreational industry, so it opens up a can of possibly unhealthy ramifications such as increased use among teens, health risks associated with overuse, and the onset of black market cultivation.

The recreational marijuana industry is about reaping profits. The more customers, the higher the profits. Who will be the target audience of their advertising? In order to generate the promised sales tax revenue, they would have to make stoners of over 110,000 adults creating full time users of at least one ounce of pot per month. And this does not include the current 38,000 medical marijuana users. Do the math. This equates to 15% of our state’s population!

Wizards and puppets may be pulling the strings to get this initiative passed, but the voters of Montana can cut those strings at the ballot box.

Stand up for Montana and keep it The Big Sky State, not The Big High State.
